Little Walter

Little Walter Jacobs, was born Marion Walter Jacobs on May 1, 1930, in Marksville, Louisiana.

As a child he developed a deep love for music and started playing harmonica at a young age. He was largely self-taught and as a teen, became a regular in the New Orleans blues scene.

In the late 1940s, Little Walter moved to Chicago, which was the epicenter of the blues scene at the time. There, he joined forces with legendary blues guitarist Muddy Waters and became a key member of Waters' band.

His dymanic playing transformed the harmonica into a lead instrument in blues bands, setting a new standard for harmonica players to follow.

Little Walter also pursued a solo career, recording numerous hit songs during the 1950s, including "Juke," "My Babe," and "Boom, Boom, Out Goes the Light." These songs showcased his exceptional harmonica skills and established him as a prominent figure in the blues world. "Juke" in particular became a massive hit and remains a harmonica standard to this day.

Tragically, on February 15, 1968, Little Walter passed away at the age of 37. His legacy endures through his groundbreaking harmonica techniques and recordings. His innovative approach to the instrument influenced countless harmonica players and left an indelible mark on blues music.

With his posthumous induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 Little Walter became the only person ever inducted into both the Blues and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame.

He is remembered as one of the true giants of the blues, a musician whose impact continues to resonate with music lovers and fellow musicians alike.
